Supermarkets in Portugal are investing in a machine to sanitize shopping carts

System sprays a product that is similar to hand sanitizer, and a mat helps sanitizing consumer’s shoes and shopping cart wheels 

The search for solutions in order to avoid the dissemination of coronavirus has made a Portuguese supermarket group from Coimbra to improve the method of sanitizing shopping carts. A 100% automated machine was designed to sanitize the carts, as soon the customer enters the store.

The system sprays a product that is similar to hand sanitizer over the shopping cart when the customer places it in the specific cleaning structure. In addition, shoes’ heels and shopping cart wheels are sanitized as well on a mat placed on the area.

The process is quick and assures a way of preventing the customer from the coronavirus. In order to acquire the machine, three supermarket chains invested 16,000 Euros.
