MasterCard survey show supermarkets standing out among retail segments and largest growth was on Brazilian North region
Online sales is still growing in Brazil and, according to a MasterCard survey, online transactions grew 87% in October, when compared to the same month of last year. Data were collected by the Spending Pulse index, which tracks all digital retail sales in the country. Between August and October 2020, the survey registered 84.5% increase in online sales, in relation to the same period of 2019.
The study also shows that in October 2020, sales volume of online retail, excepting cars, hardware, restaurants and bedding, bath and homeware categories, increased 11% when compared to 2019. Among the sector with highest registered increases in retail, during the entire year, supermarkets stood out, followed by furniture and home appliances.
Regions of the country, who had higher increase in online sales when compared to the prior year, are North (18.8%), Northeast (12.3%) and South (11.4%), followed by the Southeast region (8.9%) and Mid-Western (4.2%).
