Food retail in São Paulo created 270 job positions in June, according to survey
Data collected by APAS from the Caged, in a survey, showed that store formats reacted differently after the pandemic beginning
Food retail in the state of São Paulo was responsible by hiring 270 workers in the month of June, according to data collected by APAS from the Caged (General Register of the Employed and Unemployed). Despite the good numbers, especially in the face of the pandemic scenario, in the same month of 2019, 1,497 positions were created.
Considering store formats, in the month of June, stores in the state closed 273 job positions while minimarkets created 194 positions in the same period. In May, supermarkets hired 1,374 new workers, against 8 dismissals registered by minimarkets.
In Brazil, the survey also shows that in this year’s June only, the food retail sector created over 5,200 positions. Among states, Minas Gerais is the leader in creating new job positions with 1,157, while São Paulo registered 270 new positions. Currently, the supermarket sector from São Paulo is responsible for 543.5 thousand jobs, representing 30% of all positions in the country.
