Pão de Açúcar banner registers 15.3% of sales between April and June being originated from the internet
According to the retail CEO of GPA, Jorge Faiçal, online sales of food made by the company’s hyper and supermarket formats can reach R$ 1 billion. The executive pointed out that only in Pão de Açúcar chain, internet sales were responsible for 15.3% of the banner’s transaction between the months of April and June 2020.
Regarding the results of this year’s second quarter, considering data from Nielsen, gross sales of the company’s supermarkets and hypermarkets grew 13.6%, considering all store formats. GPA’s stores operating for over 12 months, on the other hand, registered 20.3% growth in sales in the same period.
GPA also registered sales decrease in stores located in commercial regions, where offices and companies are predominant, as most workers started to work from home. Neighborhood stores, however, counter balance the number for their positive performance in the second quarter of 2020.
