Food retail creates 40 thousand jobs in the end of 2020
APAS’s survey shows the best result for November since 2014. São Paulo leads among Brazilian states
Even in a challenging scenario as 2020, the domestic food retail reached the highest rates of new job positions in the month of November since 2014. The whole sector created 39.8 thousand new positions and São Paulo was the leading state with 9.6 thousand new jobs in November. According to the Associação Paulista de Supermercados, the state capital also registered an increase of 43.6% in relation to November 2019, three times more than the number of last year’s October.
In the entire year of 2020, the number of new job positions in the food retail of São Paulo reached 14.2 thousand, a little lower than 2014, when the supermarket sector hired 16 thousand people between January and November. Currently, the food retail sector in São Paulo has 562.3 thousand associates, followed by Rio de Janeiro, Santa Catarina, Minas Gerais and Rio Grande do Sul.
