Rede Zona Sul makes the first delivery using drones in Rio de Janeiro
Action in partnership with Ambev uses unmanned aerial and terrestrial vehicles to deliver items; service to start operating this month
Product delivery by drones finally became a reality, at least to consumers in Rio de Janeiro. This month, Zona Sul supermarkets performed the first delivery using a drone as part of the Zona Sul + Rápido (Zona Sul Faster) project, in partnership with Ambev and MyView startup.
The delivery took place from a store on the west side of Rio de Janeiro, with the average time of 30 minutes to reach the address, counting on two different drone models, an aerial and a terrestrial one. Despite the positive result with both kind of devices, initially, only the terrestrial drone will operate to transport groceries bought at Zona Sul Santa Mônica store, where it will start operating on November 30.
It is worth mentioning that in this delivery format, in addition to the drones, there are human agents with electric scooters complementing the service.
