Carried out by IBGE, study shows that the sector had the third best sales performance in the retail this year, starting from 0.5% in February to 6% in July
Supermarket sales increased 6.7% in the first eight months of 2020 when compared to the same period of 2019. According to the Commerce Monthly Survey, carried out by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) the sector keeps increasing every month, despite the slight drop in growth in August (3%), when compared to the previous month (9.8%). According to the survey, the supermarket segment had the third higher positive impact in the retail this year, parting from 0.5% growth in February to 6% in July.
Although the month of August have registered a drop in sales in relation to performance during the year, numbers overcome in 5.6% the same month in 2019. Still according to IBGE, in the last 12 months, supermarkets had an increase of 3.8% in August and July.
