Ibevar Ranking, carried out in partnership with FIA, shows that hypermarkets and supermarkets are responsible for 15% of retail sales
Carrefour, GPA and Grupo Big (former Walmart) are among the five largest retail chains in Brazil, according to the Brazilian Institute of Retail and Consume Market Executives (Ibevar) ranking. Results from the annual survey, carried out in partnership with the Institute of Administration Foundation (FIA), show retail companies with highest revenues and that hypermarkets and supermarkets are responsible for 15% of sales in the retail sector.
For the first time in 11 editions, the Ibevar Ranking was presented online, on September 22, and Carrefour is leader in the revenue category with R$ 62.2 billion in revenue. GPA, in the second position, had R$ 61.5 billion in revenues, while Grupo Big is in fourth position with R$ 24.5 billion in revenue, behind Via Varejo (R$ 29.8 billion).
The French chain is also top five in efficiency, considering the number of associates and the different store formats. Assaí Atacadista represented the wholesale sector with the Retail Excellence Prize, granted to the most admired companies by consumers, based on social network analyses, search volume in searching tools and visits to the Wikipedia page.
