According to survey carried out by APAS, the highlights were the region of Campinas and Sorocaba and areas in the interior of the state, in 2020
Campinas and Sorocaba region, in the state of São Paulo, was the one that presented the best sales performance in the month of May 2020, according to data from the Associação Paulista de Supermercado (APAS). Supermarket revenues in the region increased 14% in May, when compared to 2019, overcoming the State’s index (12.3%) as well as the greater São Paulo area’s index (11%).
Considering the year of 2020, the highest sales index was registered in the interior of the state of São Paulo with 8%, followed by the Campinas and Sorocaba region, with 7.5%. State’s growth, on the other hand, was of 7.4% in the same period and 6.5% in the greater São Paulo area.
According to Ronaldo dos Santos, president of APAS, data shows that the quarantine boosted sales, mainly because the supermarkets have received the money that used to be spent at bars, restaurants and malls.
