Survey by Compre&Confie shows an increase of 94% in online transactions between February and May, when compared to the same period in 2019
Social isolation is the responsible for the increase in alcoholic beverage consumption and, consequently, in these items’ online sales. Consumers from all over Brazil increased the consumption of these products in 93.9%, adding up to almost 250,000 purchases made from February 24 to May 3. Compre&Confie, a Market Intelligence company, has collected these data, comparing them with the same period of 2019.
In addition to an increase in sales volume, the average ticket for each person buying over the internet is of R$ 310.70, corresponding to 4.3% increase when compared to the same period of last year. Alcoholic beverages sector’s revenue in the same period, considering only online sales, was of R$77.3 million, what represents over 100% increase.
According to André Dias, Director of Compre&Confie, this is an opportunity for supermarkets and retail stores to understand that consumers are stopping to use the internet only as an alternative for buying products of daily use. “Perishable products and alcoholic beverages will naturally be part of the Brazilian’s online shopping list”, said André Dias.
