Initiative aims at facilitating consumer journey and reduce unnecessary travels
In the face of the challenging scenario that the Coronavirus pandemic provides the market, technology is emerging as a problem solver. With an eye in the well-being of the people attended by the emergency benefit provided by the Federal Government, some supermarket chains started to accept the virtual debit card issued by Caixa and Elo as a payment option.
Since last Saturday (May 16), the stores of Big chain (Big, Big Bompreço, Super Bompreço, Maxxi Atacado, Sam’s Club and TodoDia) GPA (Extra and Pão de Açucar) and Carrefour started to put this option available in their stores.
Caixa Econômica issues the virtual Elo debit card to that part of the population who have access to the R$ 600 available to mitigate social effects of the crisis created by the new Coronavirus. The payment occurs by approximation (NFC), which expedites the process and reduces physical contact.
The measure aims at avoiding unnecessary travels, keeping the beneficiaries from the need of withdrawing the cash, exposing themselves to the risk of being infected by walking down streets or in bank lines.
