Cognitive Psychology expert and Master’s in Sport Psychology, Suzy Fleury projects the athletes’ overcoming pathway on the Coronavirus pandemic scenario
The pandemic moment we are experiencing brings doubts to supermarkets. A metaphor that represents the current scenario is the crossing of a sailboat, according to Suzy Fleury, Master’s in Sport Psychology and Cognitive Psychology Expert. “We are facing a bad weather and we cannot control the wind, but we can gather the crew and adjust the sails to go as far as possible”, she said during the “Overcoming COVID-19”, Webinar held by APAS.
Based on the concept of an overcoming pathway, the expert evaluates the following aspects: the current moment; how to deal with fear; searching for well-being; and how to organize personal and professional life in this new scenario. According to the expert, there are three main goals: “Everything that is new to us set off a warning sign in our brain and it has a mechanism that increases the problem and underestimates our capacity of solving the problems. To make a decision now, one must be calm”, she affirmed.
The importance of the stores
Another factor that influences people’s well-being during the pandemic is to exercise qualities, strengths and virtues. “In Brazil, people’s creativity emerge and we can see it in supermarkets. Each one is looking for a material in order to deal with the pandemic and it is necessary to understand how they are surviving even having to go to the store with their emotional state affected. When we face fear accepting it, we are calmer, more serene and open minded to see what is within our reach”, the Master’s in Psychology and Cognitive Psychology expert said.
The best way to face the current situation is to know that all crisis have an end and, according to Suzy Fleury, it will not be the last one, but it will be unique as it has different components leading to uncertainties. As in sports, supermarkets should control the way of thinking and always be focused on wining the match. “Social connection is an indicator of success. There was this store where all associates stopped their duties for a minute and sung along. Drawing the consumer journey in the facility is important so he or she may notice that the supermarket cares for them to leave the store with a favorable experience”, she concluded.
