Vera Borrasca, Infectious diseases expert, highlights the necessary care that should be observed in the points of sale, in order to avoid coronavirus contagion
At this time, the Associação Paulista de Supermercados (APAS) has been dedicated to providing its members with guidelines that can help in fighting the high contagion of the new Coronavirus. According to Vera Borrasca, infection control and risk management expert, the two main recommendations are keeping sanitary conditions of the environment (stores) and personal hygiene.
“The most efficient products against the virus are Alcohol 70% and bleach, in addition to soap. It is very important to provide protection to workers and the checkout area, because it is there where the greater contact between customer and associates happens”, said the expert Vera Borrasca during the webinar broadcasted by APAS to elucidate doubts on the matter.
In some stores it is already possible to find some apparatuses as glass or acrylic barriers, in addition to associates using masks. According to Vera, these are measures that work since it is periodically sanitized. “Checkout counters and belts have contamination risk and, depending on the surface material, the virus can survive for hours or even days. The most common symptom people have is coughing and not fever, and for that reason, controlling the customer flow inside the store is better than taking the customer’s temperature”, the expert in infectious diseases stated.
