Performance in the period was the best in the last five years for the chain, while online sales increased by 40%
Carrefour Brasil recorded 11.4% growth in gross sales in the last four months of 2019 compared to the same period in 2018, reaching 16.84 billion reais. Only in the newest stores, with less than one year of operation, the chain achieved sales growth of 7.6% in the same period.
According to the Carrefour Brasil report, sales performance in the fourth quarter of 2019 was the best in the last five years and included the opening of 8 Atacadão stores between September and December last year.
In relation to sales during Black Friday, which takes place in the end of November, Carrefour had a 40% increase. Likewise, online sales also increased by 40%, reaching 802 million reais.
The French supermarket chain closed 2019 in Brazil with 692 stores, 28 of which were inaugurated last year, among atacarejo (a neologism that designates a way of commerce that brings together attributes of two traditional forms: wholesale and retail, with the concepts of self-service and cash & carry), supermarkets and convenience stores.
