Christmas products to increase up to 13% in relation to 2018, APAS says

Among the items that are part of the market basket of the period, panettone and chocolate should have the largest price variation

The Christmas basket in São Paulo will be more expensive than it was in 2018. This is the result of a survey released by the Associação Paulista de Supermercados (APAS), considering 225 products, including the seasonal ones used in recipes during the holidays. The study shows that price increase in these items may vary from 0.5% and 13%.

Pannetone and chocolate will have the highest variation rate in price of Christmas basket products, with a maximum expected increase of 13%, according to the APAS Economist, Thiago Berka. Moreover, customers will find this product on the supermarket gondolas with the price increased on the next replacement.

Candies should be another product category with a price increase, with chocolate standing out with the highest variation rate due to the product demand, which may also be used as present in this time of the year. On the other hand, fruits such as plums, peaches, melons and pomegranates should have a decrease in prices of up to 3%.
