Supermarket chain invests in employee training aiming at the inclusion of deaf consumers
The inclusion of consumers with special needs is growing more and more in supermarkets throughout Brazil. The Brazilian Sign Language (Libras) Day was celebrated in August, and the Cencosud supermarket chain took advantage of the date to start a social inclusion project. The chain provided an online course for its associates from across the country to become familiar with the language.
The project reaches more than 25 thousand associates, who can attend classes online using the company’s e-learning platform. Moreover, the chain from Rio de Janeiro, Prezunic, which belongs to Cencosud Group, carry out job interviews in Libras to stimulate the hiring of deaf people in the team and providing opportunities.
The chain already counts on recruiters trained for communicating in Libras and making the job interviews more accessible to these candidates. According to Laila Leite, Organizational Development and Training manager of Cencosud Brasil, the course reinforces the diversity and inclusion policy of Cencosud Group.
